What is UX Design?

You might be wondering, “What is UX Design?“. UX stands for user experience, and being a UX designer means you are designing to enhance the experience of using a product. UX designers are highly involved in user research, including but not limited to interviewing users, creating empathy maps, developing personas and mapping user journeys.

The best UX designers can figuratively take a walk in the customers’ shoes to see exactly what they are thinking and feeling throughout their journey of using a product. This type of UX design empathy is often necessary to determine the wants and needs of the customer, because customers don’t always know what they want… or what they need for that matter!

In additional to the psychological aspects of UX design, this role entails developing wireframes and mockups, which depict the visual aspects of the product, or how the product will look and feel, and how the customer will navigate through the site. These wireframes and mockups are turned into prototypes to perform usability studies, which portray how users will interact with the final product.
